Horses to Be Painted in Owner Colours for Easier Recognition

BRITISH RACING INTRODUCES PAINTED HORSES TO IMPROVE SPECTATOR EXPERIENCE
In a surprise move aimed at “improving clarity for viewers,” the British Office for Gambling, Odds & Fairness (B.O.G.O.F) has announced that all runners will be painted to match their owners’ racing silks.
The decision comes following “years of complaints” from casual viewers and TV audiences struggling to identify horses mid-race. A spokesperson for B.O.G.O.F said the move would “bring the sport into the 21st century”.
Starting from the parade ring, each horse will enter a special painting zone where eco-friendly, non-toxic paint will be applied by licensed “Equine Colour Technicians”. The process, developed in consultation with leading racehorse groomers and hairdressers from Newmarket and Camden, takes less than four minutes per horse and dries almost instantly.

Trialled Behind Closed Doors
The system has already been tested at a low-key point-to-point meet in Somerset earlier this month, with one enthusiastic owner describing the result as “a real feast for the eyes – especially when the Gigginstown runner galloped past looking like a mobile bottle of Ribena”.
Each horse’s body will match the main body colour of the silks, while stripes, stars, and caps will be painted across the rump and upper legs.

Public Safety Comes First
B.O.G.O.F has reassured the public that the paints used are fully compliant with EU Equine Cosmetics Regulation 2023/91B and have been tested on a small group of very patient Shetland ponies.
The racecourse will also be installing dedicated “Horse Touch-Up Stations” at key points along racecourses to account for mud, rain, or wear and tear.

Further developments include:
- Pantone Matching of all registered silks for colour accuracy
- Optional neon highlights for runners from stables with more than three entries
- A live TikTok feed showing the painting process
Full-colour previews of selected runners are now available to view via official B.O.G.O.F media channels.

Jag såg ett inlägg i en facebookgrupp med en man som var lärare som skrev att han hade gjort en viss sak som aprilskämt. Folk i facebookgruppen blev upprörda och skrev att hur kan man göra det... men jag tyckte det var uppenbart av inlägget att han inte hade gjort det som han skrev då det var helt ologiskt och överdrivet.
Men roligt att se hur folk inte förstod att aprilskämtet var det han skrev där i facebookgruppen...
